For Completely Selfish Reasons

I did something that I thought 4 weeks ago was the most ridiculous thing ever.
Yet here we are.
The "something" happened at my house last night while my children slept peacefully in their beds (at least until K woke up at 1:20 am and demanded I change her pull-up but I digress...)

Last night, while my children slept, the Switch Witch crept into our house and took (almost) all the Halloween candy away.

Now you may ask yourself what exactly is the Switch Witch (I asked the same question 4 weeks ago)  Turns out the Switch Witch comes after Beggar's Night and takes the candy and leaves a small present in return.

My first thought was
"Well, Where's the fun in that?"
My second thought, when I realized that one of the bags of candy we were going to pass out had been eaten and we still had 4 days to go until Beggar's Night was
"What the heck happened to all the candy"
My third thought after realizing that the children had been sneaking candy and worse than that I had eaten a great deal of it as well was  "This stuff has got to go"

So I booked an appointment with the Switch Witch,  because I am completely powerless to resist eating the candy as long as it is in my house   I want to keep my kids from gorging on sugar and artificial dye and empty calories.

Of course, I didn't want to just spring this dramatic change on them so last night they each picked 20 pieces for themselves, then bagged up the rest of the candy
(which BTW will be sent to Afghanistan for the soldier that my students have been writing letters to)

This morning they found 4 of these where the candy had been.

D was so excited she wanted to go to Target before school this morning.
So it turns out that in a head to head competition Target totally kicks Candy's butt.

I forgot about the Switch Witch!! She came last year, but this year my daughter agreed that a) I could have the chocolate, and b) it would be better to sell said chocolate to the local dentist ($2/lb.), who then sends it to the troops. She got to keep some, and made $2!
