Not That Birds are Known for Their Intelligence
but this one has spent all afternoon trying to fly through a closed window. He (or she) sort of stopped when they saw me through the window with the camera but as soon as I walked away all I hear is "chirp, chirp, bonk. chirp chirp bonk...."

I think that birds do that when they see a rival in their territory (i.e. their reflection). I've heard that sometimes they will return for days and days after to try to scare off the competitor. Here's a page about it.
Remember, our fine feathered friends really ARE "birdbrains"...! On the other hand, maybe she's just an avian scientist investigating the invisible force field that's preventing her from entering your house? Yeah, that's probably it... 8-D
